Bikkuriman World  Hudson Soft (Westone;Hudson Soft)1987
[52]***The game is basically the same as Sega's 'Wonderboy in Monsterland', but the PC-Engine version features characters from an anime TV-Series titled 'Bikkuriman'. Otherwise its a 100% perfect conversion of the Arcade original.

Kato-chan & Ken-chan  Hudson Soft1987

[4]***A platform game which is kinda infamous because of its bizarre humor. Gameplay reminded me a lot of the original 'Wonderboy'. The game becomes very difficult soon because without precise jumps you won't stand a chance and fall down one of the numerous pits. And when you don't constantly collect fruits your life bar will decrease slowly but steadily.***This comical action game features two bungling detectives, J.J. and JEFF, as they travel through a total of six fields. One day, a request comes into their office to take a case that requires them to "rescue a wealthy man who's been kidnapped." Choose between the two characters and set off alone to outwit your partner and save the day. Each field is broken down into four areas, where enemies, as well as your partner, will try to keep you from your goal. There are many items throughout each area. Kick around in various locations to make them appear. Jump and spray-paint your way toward your goal. If you find a hidden room, you can regain health while being completely entertained by its short sketch and surreal allure.

[1]***A Beat'm Up in best 'Kung Fu' or 'Double Dragon' tradition. A bit too easy and short for my taste (except the final boss which I found to be very hard). The graphics are very beautiful with great backgrounds and detailed sprites. Controls are a bit jerky, especially kick-jumping. Despite its flaws I enjoyed the game.***Brave the streets of New York City in this side-scrolling beat-'em-up game. Thugs kidnap the beloved Madonna, and it's up to players to become vigilantes. Players fight their way into enemy territory to get her back. Enemies attack with weapons like iron pipes, chains, guns and motorcycles. To fight back, players can punch, kick or use the "nunchaku" item that appears in the stage. Players must use each of the attacks effectively to defeat their enemies. To clear a stage, defeat the boss that waits at the end. Players fight their way through exciting stages that include the City Streets, Junkyard, Brooklyn Bridge and the Backstreets.

Cyber Cross  Face1989Cyber Cross' gameplay reminds me of the original [game=#184]Shinobi[/game] game. Fight your way from left to right through various enemies by kicking or punching them, and sometimes jumping on higher platforms or over pits. After picking up some extra power up you can become a cool Superhero dude wearing a costume which could come from a cheap Power Rangers TV-show. In this superhero form you can wield a sword, throw a boomerang or shoot with a gun (depending on the color of your suit). The graphics are nothing special, but it's fast an has no slowdowns, which adds to the rather good overall playability of the game. labelimageminimize
The Ninja Warriors  Taito1989
[33]***
[62]***With your robotic ninja you have to hack and slash your way through 5 stages filled with hordes of villains to finally meet the endboss. Pretty straightforward gameplay without any surprises. The graphics are average, the background quality varies. The game never reaches the graphical standards of the original arcade version. They also could have implemented more standard enemies, because after some time you will be bored to slay the same types of enemies through all the levels again and again. The games difficulty lies mainly in the nasty time limit and not so much in the enemies, which are quite easy to beat once you understand their simple attack patterns. An overall average game.***Looks like Shinobi with great graphics but such a bad gameplay...

[52]***Strange enough this game never made it outside of Japan, but maybe that is for the better because the game is not really good. Strange controls and graphics that are not on par with other PC-Engine games. The gameplay resembles that of [game=#4219]Road Blasters[/game]. Besides getting to the goal in the given amount of time, you have to shoot other cars which are in your way and avoid their shots or attacks from airplanes. After each of the six stages there is a little boss battle. Noteworthy is the ridiculous Japanese voice of K.I.T.T. in the few cutscenes between the stages.

[37]***The graphics are fast indeed and look good on screenshots. Actually the game is moving with such an unreal speed, it ruins the gameplay. Controls are bad as is the collision detection. Because of that the game is rather difficult although it only has six very short levels. The music and sound effects are also rather weak. An overall disappointing arcade conversion.***This is a different style of racing game in which you attempt to catch criminals by chasing them and ramming their cars off the road. Playing as two cops from the NYPD special "CHASE H.Q." unit, the first half of each stage involves you maneuvering your unmarked car in a heated chase, followed by an action sequence in the latter half. Once you reach the target vehicle, you flip on your lights and siren, and then try to stop the culprits by repeatedly colliding with them. Use your different gears wisely as you make your way through streets and around corners, and be careful not to hit objects or other cars, or you'll lose speed. Also at your disposal are turbo units for temporary extra speed and ramming power.

Chew-Man-Fu  Hudson Soft;NEC Technologies (Now Production)1990A novel action-puzzle game set in the sacred towers taken over by the evil sorcerer, Chew Man Fu. It's up to an apprentice female monk to free the towers and lift Chew's curse to bring peace and fried rice back to the land once ruled by the Egg Roll Dynasty. The rules are simple.
